NZ's Tim Price Wins Lumuhlen 4* !!!

Monday, June 16, 2014 - Joanne Bridgman
Great win for NZer Tim Price on the stunning "WESKO",  at the  CCI**** Lumuhlen  in top class company.
Tim Price jumps clean SJ !!!The extremely talented 35 yo worked his way up the leaderboard from 7th, being the only rider to finish on his dressage score of 43.8.  The was  Wesko's 2nd 4* start,  Badminton few weeks ago they parted company in the water jump.
The legend German  rider Michael Jung knocked a SJ rail to drop back to  2nd place and Boyd Martin ( USA ) finished  3rd.

Final results can be found here on this link .

However,   the whole event was tinged with sadness as the eventing world  lost  a very talented and popular rider Benjaman Winter ( Germany ) due to a fall on cross country. " THIS IS FOR BEN " were Tim's words in his prize giving speech.....!!!
So very sad .....

Other NZ riders  were - Tim's wife Jonelle performed well with 12th on "Classic Moet" and 16th on "The Deputy ".
Mark Todd on "Oloa" finished 21st and fellow NZer Kate Wood on "Easy Tiger " 27th.
Lizzie Brown and "Playtime" finished 21st in the CCI*** .
Interesting to see   NZ TB "Black Tie"  and Oli Townend finish 4th.  "Black Tie"  is NZ bred and out of the same dam as Parklane Hawk.
Watch this video  by the FEI which covers most aspects of the whole event .......!!!!.

Freddie Mac and Fox-Pitt 3rd Bramham 3* !!!

Monday, June 09, 2014 - Joanne Bridgman
"Freddie Mac" and William Fox-Pitt took out 3rd placing in a tough CCI*** test at Bramham Horse Trials in weekend.
"Freddie Mac" and WFP showing class !!!This super talented horse was sourced for William by us at QNZH's.
He was bred in NZ  and  did some SJing here and sold to a good  friend  of ours in USA , where he started his eventing career at low level .
It was a close finish for the top 3 placings , Freddie only 1.6 margin from winning .
Such a rewarding result after the drama  of last year when he was Eliminated  at this same event over a technical detail of hind boots being too tight for the SJing !!!!
Interesting to see once again the most of the leaders in the CCI*** were not leaders after the dressage phase but moved up after the XC.  The XC this year was very tough and the weather conditions were dismal.

Paget and McNab FEI Ban LIfted !!!

Saturday, June 07, 2014 - Joanne Bridgman
Jock and Clifton Promise .Breaking news this morning, the provisional suspension of Jock Paget ( NZL) and Kevin McNab ( AUST ) has been lifted and both riders can commence their competing immediately .
The final outcome is still to come but this is looking very positive I must say .
What good news this is to have one of our leading NZ event riders back on board again !!!

Full statement from the FEI can be read on

Shopping for Donkeys with QNZH's !!!

Monday, June 02, 2014 - Joanne Bridgman
"Charm" and "Penny", cuties !!!Last week I had an interesting new challenge.  I had  a client from Tahiti  and we went  shopping for donkeys.
What fun that was !!!
Learnt alot and sort of fell in love with donkeys in the process .....EEK ... might have to buy one now !!!

We bought the 2 pedigree English Donkeys as  shown in the picture here , "Charm"  and "Penny"  ( well that is the  short names however  they have  super fancy  long names too ) .

bit of a freak ,,, a Mammoth donkey at 2 years !!!I was introduced to Mammoth Donkeys at this stud.
Intriguing !!!!
This one in the photo  is basically a freak of nature,
It is only 2 years old and already about 17 hh .
I am  5' 6" and look how big it is .
I am told the mature Mammoth Donkeys average about 16 hh .

Well "Charm" and "Penny" will be off to Tahiti in July to hang out in Aodrena's garden and live a life of luxury on one of the Tahitian islands called RAEATEA ( next to Bora Bora ).

Lucky donkeys I reckon , will have to pay them a visit in paradise !!!!

NZ Eventing Team Wins Nations Cup !!!

Sunday, May 25, 2014 - Joanne Bridgman
Winning NZ riders at Houghton !!!NZ  won the FEI Eventing Nations Cup for the first time ,  at Houghton International Horse Trials ,  UK.  Germany was 2nd and the British were 3rd.
Sir Mark Todd cleaned up the CICO3* class  performing the winning dressage test of 35.9 and following through with clean jumping XC,( adding  3 .6 time faults ) and clear  Show Jumping with  his Olympic mount  "NZB Campino".
Lizzie Brown and " Henton Attorney General " took  2nd place, coming 3rd in the dressage and double clear jumping, being the only rider to come inside the time in the XC.
Craig Nicolai and the grey " Just Ironic" moved up from 62nd place to finish 21st.
And Tim Price on "Hadden Trump Card"  finished 22nd.
Another positive result on the Inernational circuit for NZ EVENTING !!!!!

NRM National 3DE Taupo !!!

Wednesday, May 21, 2014 - Joanne Bridgman
The NRM National 3Day Event at Taupo ( NZ) was another great event  !!!
Thick fog greeted us each morning  which was quite disorientating for riders and horses but by late afternoon the sun was beaming down on us .  I heard there were a couple of little earthquakes one evening as well .

Clarke and "Balmoral Sensation" XC.Clarke Johnstone was man of the moment with the lovely "Balmoral Sensation" ( Ritchie ) taking out the CCI*** . This was their 3rd 3* win in a row and they are clear winners of the Super League too.  This partnership have only been together a few months,  Ritchie was  previously ridden and produced by the talented Donna Smith .  It  is looking to be an exciting future together and Clarke has his sights on representing NZ in the future with this talented horse.
Runner up was Donna Smith and "Balmoral Tangalooma" looking great in all 3 phases, another exciting combination for the future .
Third placing was Kelsey Rothery and her wonderful little horse "The Felon", just powered around the big track showing tremendous talent and confidence.

Diane Gilder and "Your Attourney " had a well deserved win in the CCI** leading from start to finish jumping double clear.
Amanda Pottinger , and the lovely "Just Kidding" took out the CCI* Championship class and Maddy Crowe and "Brogan" won the CCI* Non Championship class.

Surprise Winner Badminton Horse Trials !!!

Monday, May 12, 2014 - Joanne Bridgman
Australia's Sam Griffith WINNER !!!As to be expected SJing day was thrilling right to the end ,   and Australian Sam Griffith on the outstanding mare " Paulank Brockagh" are the winners of  the Badminton 2014 !!!
This combination moved up from 25th after dressage phase to  jump clear xc and take 1 rail Sjing,
British  Oli Townend riding the experienced 4* horse "Armada" took 2nd moving up from 34th place in dressage .
Harry Meade and " Wild Lone" were 3rd , moving up from 46th place on first day.  This was a remarkable feat for Harry as only 6 months ago he had shattered both his elbows and it was doubtful if he would be able to ride again , let alone so soon .
Sadly Paul Tapner  had 4 rails to drop back to 4th place....but still a top result !!!
The SJing took its toll . No clear rounds apart from Wendy Schaffer and " Koyuna Sundancer" jumping around clean with time faults , what a super jumper , by the legend  NZTB sire "Brilliant Invader ".
Mark Todd in the lake !!!NZ riders were wonderful as always  and not far off the mark.
Tim Price finished 9th , sadly taking 4 rails on his tired horse .
Lucy Jackson 11th .... how thrilling for Lucy at her first Badminton .
The legendry Mark Todd  finished  up 14th , and check out this pic of Mark taking a swim in the lake !!!

Final results can be viewed here on this link .

Well, this year Badminton was rivetting right to the end .... A PROPER 4 * !!!
Lets hope this sets the standard for other 4*'s  ( apart from Olympics )  where the XC should be far more influential .
Watch this space I guess !!!!

Badminton Cross Country takes its toll !!!

Sunday, May 11, 2014 - Joanne Bridgman
Badminton XC day was certainly one we shall never forget causing much controversy and NOT a dressage competition  this  year !!!  A true 4 * test however  the weather had a huge impact on  the results .
Dressage leaders no longer high on the leaderboad !!!
Lucy Jackson showing her class XC !!!  Tob job by Australian Paul Tapner and "Kilronan", moving into lead, He is the only rider that was in top 10 after dressage still  in top standings .   NZ 'er Tim Price on "Ringwood Sky Boy " made it all look easy moving up from 41st to 2nd   , the most stunning XC  round in a beautiful rythym,  and was fastest round of the day with 11.6 time .   Our dear friend Lucy Jackson  was outstanding  on " Willy Do "  currently in 10th place.  Legend Mark Todd took a bath but still 'the master' managed to get a clear round ( soaked to the skin )  currently lying 16th .
- less than half the field finished XC
-24 clear jumping rounds and no one in time
-25 Eliminated , including some of the big names hitting the deck like  Andrew Nicholson  William FP,  Mark Todd on his 2nd ride Leonidas II.
-18 retired ( mainly after 1 stop and just calling it a day to save their horse for another big test).
- jump faults  were spread over the whole course , even fence 2 and 2nd to last fence
- NO horse or rider was badly hurt , all safe and sound !!!

Here is a interview with the leaders Paul and Tim ........
Bring on the SJing ............ it is very close at the top and results could change a lot still ... SO EXCITING !!!!!

Clarke Montgomery Takes Lead Badminton !!!

Saturday, May 10, 2014 - Joanne Bridgman

Clark Montgomery (USA) rode a stunning test   today on his beautiful " LOUGHAN GLEN" scoring 33 ( 77.78%).
Well done Clark, great job . See video of this test and his interview here !!!

NZ's  Mark Todd is not far off lead  with 7.2 marks behind  on "NZB Campino"  5th and 9th on "Leonidas II".
Team mate Andrew Nicholson 7th on "Nereo".
Six NZ riders are placed in top 20 , very good results  !!!

Cross country day will change the results a lot  . Heavy rain expected tonight so the going may well take is toll especially for the horses going later in the day.  Mark is 19th to go early on ......... definitely will be an advantage.
One fence has been removed from the course  for safety reasons , 18 B, a log after a steep tight curving line.
